Speakers for bare room

Posted by: bigtrak on 08 January 2002

Hi
I am looking to get some speakers to go with my NAC12 and NAP160 and Micromega Stage 5 CD Player. My concern is that my listening room is far from ideal, it has bare floor boards and no soft furnisings i.e sofa etc. The room is approx 4m x5m and the speakers really need to go against the wall. Ideally I would like a second hand pair of SBL's, would these be suitable in such a "harsh" enviroment? or is there a better alternative for a budget of £800 max.
Thanks for your time

Where does one sit in this listening room?

LOL!
The room is our dining room so there is a table and chairs.

I think you will get some reflective problems regardless of speaker type. I think on balance standmounts might be the answer as ultimately they produce less bass/reverberation. SBL's should work as they are effectivley a hybrid between standmount and floorstander. My room is reasonably bare but I have rug to soak up some of the relections.
