Adjusting volume sensitivity on 82

Posted by: zero on 12 December 2003

Hi there,
I've recently bought an 82 and found that the volume control was a bit on the sensitive side making it extremely hard to get a quiet listening volume. I was told that there was a adjustable pot inside which could change the sensitivity, so I've opened up the 82 and went to adjust what I thought it was only to find out it adjusts the green light instead! Does this pot exist? If so where can I find it?!

Best regards,
Francis

I believe that early units have an adjustment for the speed of the volume pot motor (which has much the same effect), but be careful not to adjust the pot which tunes the "listening" frequency of the remote control!!!

Contact Naim for more details.

cheers, Martin

Hi Francis

AFAIK the only 'user adjustment' is the small inset screw over the top of the volume/balance pots which adjust the rotational speed of the volume control as commanded from the remote control.

I adjusted this on my 82 to good effect.

If you're opening up the 82 to do this; there is a little tweak you can do (if it hasn't been done).

There's a bunch of about 6 fine wires of different colours that run across the top front edge of the volume/balance assembly. They are held together with a plastic cable-tie.

Removing the tie and spreading the wires is supposed to be a bit of a performance tweak.

Be very careful of course. Nail clippers are ideal.

Good luck.

Hi there
Just adjusted it, much better now! Also did the mod you mentioned, hard to say if there's a difference as I'm still getting used to the new sound of the 82/135s, but I'll take your word for it Smile

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,
Francis
