Ashes to Ashes

I was wondering if by the faintest of chances England might defeat Australia in the coming series. With the shortage of warm up matches these days I am a little concerned that the boys may be underdone. I hear that you are so strong there is a reluctance to pick some new young colt whose name escapes me.
Now that bespokes a rude confidence.
Only hoping it is at least close mind.

Lomo,
Indeed, the real test of whether the tables have really turned will be in 18 months time downunder, if England can build on this win and Australia regroup then that could be, yet again, a huge series. A lot of cricket to be played before that and it is probably a close call as to which team the rest of the world would prefer not to play. I guess the Aussie team will be in for some stick once they get home but they still have some fantastic players and will bounce back.

And it seems that Duncan Fletcher is finally, officially, a British citizen too - a perfect day!

Thanks to those who have contributed to this thread, and all in the right spirit as well, however I can hear phantom singing from my screen
"Wheres your ashes gone,
Wheres your Ashes gone???"

I saw the ticker tape parade for the team on television this afternoon. Quite impressive.
I congratulate the English and their cricketers (and offer my support for anybody else that beats the Australians at anything).

I think that many of us are glad to see that the stage of world cricket is looking set to be a more intriguing and competetive environment. Australian success was becoming a little tedious and the pre-ashes arrogance of the Aussie team will only be surpassed by the English when we hold on to the Ashes next time round

Ha ha - the New Zealander I work for was supporting England too! Nothing he likes to see more than the Aussies get a whipping!
Oh, and he's moving to Australia early next year!!
Cheers,
Jon

It's that little brother, big brother thing again.
However I would have thought that Deane should have grown out of it by now.
Funny thing, we don't mind being beaten by good losers.

Grown out of it? You've gotta be kidding! Following sport is interesting and all - but hardly a man's pursuit.
