many thanks

For 500-1000 you can look at the following possibilities.

Naim CD3. Single box, non upgradable CDP with an older CD mech but employing the newer flat puck. A really nice CDP at entry level status, expect to pay up to 500 quid. SLim line series

Naim CD3.5. Upgradable with a *cap the 3.5 superceeded the CD3. Employing the later CDmech, widley regarded to be better than the CD3. expect to pay up to 700 quid. Slim Line Series

naim CDi. An older CDP but a superb example of how a one box player can sound. In the same top loading style of the then CDS, generally employing the older CD mech with Top Hat Puck. Insure that the nextel ring is in good shape before consider purchase, excellent serviced models can get around 700 quid. This model had been argued to be better than a CDX. Also big box technology

Naim CD2. Looks a bit like a CDX, big box technology emplying a good suspension system. I can't remember though if it was upgradable I don't think so. These a rare beasts and to be honest never receieved much recognistion, take of that what you will. Pays up to 600 quid.

Naim CD5. Naims latest entry level CDP, it is a supurb player which can be upgraded, in the new slim line facia. I expect you caould almost buy one brand new.

So in order of age and release you are loking at, CDi, CD3, CD2, CD3.5 and CD5

One thing is for certain they are all good CDPs built like the old brick house and lasts a long time, but of course check anything out first and especially the nextel ring, which is the black ring surrounding the centrr of where the CD goes, if it is badly worn with silver showing through it will be expensive and best left.

Good hunting.

Audio T seem to be moving towards AV stuff.
The Camberley shop was clearing out its Naim stock earlier in the month...
