Hi folks,
I saw the topic about the LP12 support and thought, "hmm, most of the advice given here, might also benefit the CDX"
Now,at this very moment I'm using a Sound-Factory "Tripod" rack,with a TT-isolation platform under my CDX.
It sounds fine to me,but the thing that keeps irritating me more,is that this rack doesn't hide the spaghetti of cables and I also don't like its boring, industrial looks.
(why did ya buy it then,I hear you ask... you're right) The other thing is that the CDX is on the bottom-shelf which isn't a big problem, but not very comfy either.
Now,to keep a long story short...
I'm bored with the industrial looks of my S-F rack lately, but I also want a good support for my CDX.
I still do have an old pinewood piece of furniture, which hides all the cables nicely, but sounds like shit, compared to the S-F "Tripod".
IS there some alternative, like placing a good but flat isolation-platform in that pinewood furniture, under my CDX to keep the CDX singin those fine tunes.
I know some of ya guys might mention MANA,but I haven't found 1 dealer in Holland which sells it.
Other options are also welcome.
btw: my budget for this is only about 150,-UKP.
Would a Mission Isoplat be any good ?
Greetings,
Alco

Alco,
You must must must must try out the Hutter racks - they are specially available in 500mm size specifically for Naim gear. Hutter also do furniture, but the owner is a hi-fi nut who has done an exceptional job developing these racks.
www.hutter.co.at
They are made of SOLID wood and aluminium, different woods are available. The height between the shelves will just fit the height of Naim gear, so there is very little gap to see the cables behind. They look modern without being industrial or olde-worlde.
The also sound fantastic, giving a solid and natural presentation.

Thanx, Andrew and Brian for ya reply.
Andrew: whatta ya mean by:"they are specially available in 500mm size specifically for Naim gear" ? is it 500 wide or 500 deep. 500mm width would be fine, but 500 deep would be way to deep,IMHO Also because my Nait-2 and CDX are only 280 mm deep.
I must confess it looks rather good though! Way better than MANA. I see a rack as a piece of furniture,so it really has to look good and match with the rest of the interior.
I also considered using that old pinewood piece of furniture again for a while, and use the S-F tripod TT-isolation platform in it, but I do think it'll compromise the performance of my CDX.
see ya'

I think the 500mm (rather than 600mm) refers to width. As I wrote, it is specifically size to give a snug fit for Naim boxes.
Regarding price, it depends where you are. In the UK it is roughly £150 for the base section and £130 per shelf. In Austria and Germany they're likely to be less expensive.
Not cheap, but certainly less than the Naim shelves.

Ah,thanx Andrew
500mm width is perfect.
I like the Naim Fraim looks but their prices are really absurd,IMHO.
I'll have a look at their website to see if there are any Hutter-dealers in my area. (guess not)

Alco,
In my experience a Base01 isolation platform works very well with a CDX. They've just gone up in price but I think its more £120 than £150.
IMO Mana makes a CDX sound too aggressive and harsh, although it works a treat for the LP12.
I'm sure Hutter would be good. Fraim must be worth a listen but my suspicion is that the CDX and glass are not a happy combination, being rather fatiguing.

This is the NL Hutter distributor, unless you can negotiate a better deal than me you will find that 500mm is a 'special' size and attracts a 15% supplement to the price of standard sizes/finishes.Manufacture and delivery times were shorter than those quoted - only 3 weeks. Oh and it sounds good to me.

Hi Alco, congrats on your CDX! I have read all your posts about it and thought you were finally satisfied. Yesterday I saw on marktplaats.nl you advert and I thought: "here we go again!"
Will it ever stop?
Greetz, Bas
BTW SolidSteel is the way to go!

Howdy Bas V,
yep, you are right, I am really satisfied!
Changing my S-F rack is only a matter of looks.
(ik wel alleen nog de puntjes op de I zetten, qua uiterlijk)
That's all,
greetings,
Alco.

JC,
May I suggest you try out a pair of Katans. Try them 4" away from the wall (at 8" they're too bass light).
They have about 95% of the speed of the Kans, with 300% better tonal balance. I've just bought some for a 2nd system
They've also got better bass output and sound more tuneful (!!).
Give 'em a home demo on their Katan stands and be prepared to experiment with positioning.

do you intend to replace your kan2 by katans?
You should be so lucky I'm keeping the Kans for the primary system at the main house. The Katans are for the flat.
I just bought the Katans on Saturday, so won't have them for a couple of weeks yet Anyway I got them with the Katan stands - which actually work very very well. OK they do look a bit "art nouveau" but they are very rigid. The only complaint I see are the bases, not as wide as the Kan stands and therefore more difficult to stabilise.

Me too, I generally don't like ported loudspeakers. However, sometimes a ported loudspeaker comes along where they get things right. These includes the Katans and Living Voice loudspeakers.
The Katan port does not make its presence known. There is no apparent slowness or separation of frequency bands.
