The Songs of Nick Drake - Keith James & Rick Foot - Spring 2010

Posted by: JWM on 31 January 2010

Coming to a venue near you this Spring.

IMHO well worth seeing. Does justice to ND's songs and guitar playing.

Already booked tickets on your recommendation (in another thread) on 23rd March at the Sage. Looking forward to it.

I saw them a couple of years ago in the Greenwich. Great representations of Nick Drake's output - I thought their version of Black Eyed Dog was particularly stunning.

Got some tickets for July.....Nick Drake, John Martyn and Davy Graham. That's some line up!

Well, I hope you all enjoy KJ&RF and that I haven't over-bigged them up (I don't think so!).

And a very fine first gig. Smile

KJ is very keen on stressing he interprets ND's (JM's/DG's) music, so he does use his own vocal phrasing in places. But he sings well, plays guitar superby, and RF accompanies very sensitively on the db.

Don't know if I'll get to King's Lynn though, cos my back continues to be a bit naughty.

JWM,

Many thanks indeed; that was a great recommendation and went to see them last night in Bracknell. Without your posting this would have passed me by.

You have not over-hyped them, they are both accomplished musician's and their interpretations are sensitive, evocative and certainly capture the spirit of ND himself.

In addition to their selection of ND's repertoire, they played a hugely enjoyable version of John Martyn's Solid Air, and some Davy Graham.

A most enjoyable evening, and woke up this morning with their gig still swirling around my head which I think says it all.

James,

Just back from their gig at The Sage. An excellent gig, and as Dasher said it was well worked set interspersed with songs by others artists as well. Had a nice chat with Keith & Rick afterwards, both interesting and charming, as well as great musicians.
