Helsinki Project

I thought I'd give something new a try... After a bit of online sampling of carious of naim's CDs I don't have I decided on Jason Carter's Helsinki Project, and it's a really good buy Smile

Excellent and eclectic mix of beats, guitar and all sorts of "world" influences. If you like music that mixes its roots thoroughly then well worth a listen. Best thing I've bought in a while, and IMHO one of the better things on naim's own label. Hurrah!

Good to hear that. I usually avoid Naim lsbel music but they sent me Sampler 6 as an appology for a delayed order. Apart from some dodgy Jazz, there is some superb music on the CD. So much so that i've ordered 3 CD's and no doubt a few more will follow.

Just listening to From up North from the Helsinki Project and looking forward to the CD arriving.

James,

I'm intrigued. Which three discs have you ordered and what do you consider the dodgy jazz on Sampler 6?

Hi Phil,

Laurence Hobgood was the only one i disliked - not really my thing. CD's ordered were

Daniel Mulhern: Pigeon Coup
Jason Carter: The Helsinki Project
Held Lampi Project: Digital Dreaming

James,

Three good choices (especially I think the first one for reasons that will become apparent when you read the liner notes). Maybe try John van der Veer's The Ark also. There's two coming up that you'll probably really enjoy too: Whatisthisandwhy by Jump Ship and Phantom Limb by, err, Phantom Limb. Both have Myspace sites so you can get a flavour there.

Phil

PS. Don't completely give up on Laurence Hobgood. He's a wonderful pianist and you never know when a piece of music might unexpectedly sneak up and grab you.

Thanks Phil - i'll take a look at those artists. Actually after another few listens i may have been a bit harsh on LH - it's this damn Naim stuff making me keep listening Big Grin

Any recommendations for a good intro to Laurence ?
