What's Wrong with the Classik Then?

Posted by: Andy Kirby on 06 July 2001

There seems to be rather a lot of Linn Classiks for sale on EBay, also Audio T seem to be discounting them rather heavily in their Red Letter Sale.

Any Forum members have experience of this offering and if so with which speakers?

Many thanks

A.

Andrew:

Is the new Classik "k" the one that has the tuner or is there yet another newer version?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Classik. Esp if the punter was thinking of a Bose system.

I once visited a bloke to buy an Arcam CD - his classic was awesome.... running the sounds from his PC! roll eyes

What is the Classik-K, somebody, please.

The original Classik had no suffiks yet the Classik-T was logikally the TUNER version.

So is the K some "with Kans" dealer botch with go faster stripes, or what?

Considering a Classik for another room to allow CD selection in a multiroom sense.

The other of many options was to run a 14m phono from my Alpha 9 CD to another integrated in the bedroom, or from the Bi-amp (pre-amp) output of the Myryad Mi120 integrated in the living room to a power amp. But how the hell do people control the volume in this way??? confused

Lindsay,

Maybe it's like Kelloggs Special K?

I sort of did this - I ran cables from the 2nd tape output of my 82 in the lounge to the tuner input of a nait in the bedroom, the output level of the 82 is fixed and the volume in the bedroom can be controlled by the nait. At the time I went and got the fatest and most expensive cable I could find from Maplin, in retrospect I probably should have gone with Naim's own interconnect which I understand can be bought from better dealers. Anyway it was just a means for me to listen to good qualityh R4 in bed, and I could tell the difference in the bedroom when I got a 2nd HiCap on the 82 in the lounge so it must be doing something right!

There's a new Classik round the corner. It's meant to be an uprated version of the current model. Better power delivery, better preamp section. That's it as far as I know.

It's a cute little machine. Good value for money. After all, you get a relatively decent CD, tuner and amp (and timer:) for a 'measly' £1000. It's conveniently compact and quite fun. It comes with 4m a side of speaker cable, but it benefits from either NACA5 or Chord Odyssey and speakers that go well would be Dynaudio Audience 42 or 62, Linn Katans and Naim Intros.

Frank.
