What is your favourite quote?

What is your favourite quote? Maybe a withering put down or something inspirational - maybe something humorous or just plain silly or something that motivates you?

Here is a jewell I stumbled across earlier today...

'Is it not the interest of the human race, that every one should be so taught and placed, that he would find his highest enjoyment to arise from the continued practice of doing all in his power to promote the well-being, and happiness, of every man, woman, and child, without regard to their class, sect, party, country or colour'? ~ Robert Owen

The only reason they know where things are is because THEY moved them from where they are supposed to be. I think they do it just to annoy. Smile

There is often some humourous quotable stuff in the TV series Spooks...

Home Secretary: You know, back in my days as a student radical, our dreams were all about the glorious proletariat.

Harry Pearce - Head of D Section MI5: We've still got those dreams on file somewhere.

"Donec eris felix, multos numerabis amicos. Tempora si fuerint nubila, solus eris." ( Ovid )

Translation: As long as you are happy, you will have many friends. If cloudy times appear, you will be alone.

Sad but true.

There are many Sam Goldwyn quotes, e.g. "a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on"

but my favourite is when the immigrant movie mogul caught people laughing at his (lack of) command of English:

"You think I know fuck nothing. Well you're wrong! I know fuck all!"

A winning tweet announced at the Hay Festival:-

"I believe we can build a better world!
Of course, it'll take a whole lot of rock, water & dirt.
Also, not sure where to put it." Eh? (winner was a Canadian woman.)

Perhaps not a favourite quote, and certainly lacking humour, but one that in retrospect shows incredible foresight:

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

Thomas Jefferson (attributed) (1743 - 1826)
