3 series upgrade

is this worth it? what differance does the old style flatcap and a nap90 make to my old system? and what about cost for 2nd hand/ex-dem?....just wondered if its worthwhile upgrading my old system cd3/nait3, because used prices would be pretty competitive? I understand that my dealer would have to do a mod for about £50 to the nait thanx pedro

The Flatcap certainly makes a difference, although I am not sure how much of a difference to the pre-amp...I have heard it powering a CD3.5 and it definitely improved the sound there.

Getting the Nait converted to a pre-amp is basically the next step up to the ultimate system. It means you can get into "proper" Naim systems now. I would suggest you look at a NAP140 instead of the 90 as the 2nd hand prices are very similar and the 140 would be worth the extra cash...though I appreciate it would spoil the slimline look...

The flat cap would be a worth while addition to your kit, however the nait 3 is essentially a nac92/nap 90 in one box so the purchase of the nap 90 might not be worth while so wait for a 140.

I expect you are aware but the cd3 cannot be powered by a cap.

When i used to have just a Nait 3, my first upgrade was: Nac92/Hicap/Nap140.
I found it s/h only £1050 (or 1680€).
It was really enormous, the biggest upgrade i ever did (with the supercap).
So, from cd3/nait3, and for "only" 1680€, you can jump to Cd3/Nac92/Hicap/Nap140.
Just an advice: don't buy a flatcap (1 or 2): according to me, the performance can't justify the price; a s/h Hicap is really better value!!!!
