Sound Quality on Pink Floyd CDs
Posted by: jim learoyd on 11 November 2003
Noticed last week in HMV that most of the Pink Floyd CDs have been reduced in price. On Vinyl the old Floyd CDs sound excellent, i.e. The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Animals.
How do the CDs compare to the Vinyl versions? I have noticed that Animals has been re-mastered.
Comments very welcome. I think I will be buying some this week.

JIm,
I have quite a few Pink Floyd CD's and I must say they sound pretty good. Admitedly not as good as the original vinyl ones but certainly better than average.

I was surprised that the sound quality of the "Echoes" compilation versions of the "Division bell" tracks were better (not compared any othr PF albums).
Ususally compilation album quality is worse and lowest common denominator quality, ie that of the bands worse quality album.

Hehe!
Have to agree on the first part. Never thought of the second part, but now when you say so I think you are right...

I think "Echoes" is a pretty darn good remaster.
Just thought I would mention it.

Why they being sold off cheap do you think, all the online places are doing it too, maybe a major SACD/DVD-A elease schedule is on the offing.

I think Echoes is good too. Listening to DSOTM SACD at the mo. Not too impressed so far, mind you the Pioneer DV656/ Arcam Xeta\2 is not as good as my CD82T/72-Hi-140.It always seems to take some of the top away and give more bass(not especially good bass).I wonder if the neigbours could stand it again 2 channel via the CDP?

I think that the echoes remaster is an abomination!
Wish You were here is subjectivly faster, the echoes track is cut to f**k and the dark side tunes have enhanced background noises which are distracting!

Guys,
I take that as a not very good sound then, ie not very good quality. I wondered why they are selling them cheaper.
