So, what do we all reckon it'll be then? (If you care of course)

Posted by: Kevin-W on 26 January 2010

I'm talking about the thing (possibly the most talked-about and breathlessly hyped piece of yet-to-be-announced consumer electronics ever) that uncle Steve will be unveiling in San Francisco later today.

A game-changing/revolutionary tablet multi-media machine that will do for publishing what the iPod did for music and the iPhone for telecomms? Or a MacBook Air-type anticlimax?

Who knows - but I'm quite excited to know what it is, although I doubt if I'll be buying one as I'm skint!

Two things are certain though: there will be lots of whooping; and, once revealed, it will generate even more debate and column inches than it has done already (which is rather a lot); and ignite huge and vicious online flame wars between Windoze fans and Mac nuts (I belong in the latter camp, by way of disclosure).

It'll be called an iPalette. And I'll want one. Badly. But only if it uses an OLED display.

These are my predictions.

Yawn.

The best announcement would be a new version of Aperture

The one thing you can guarantee is that the early adopters will be screwed

It#ll be a modest improvement to something current. Then hyped to death. Perhaps. Or something else. Smile

Finally, someone's fixed the 11th tablet, the one Moses dropped and broke while coming down the mountain with the other ten tablets containing the first ten commandments. Winker

Just as well as he got his predictions wrong.

I had found that explanation but it still didn't make sense.

Thank you BigH. Think i might start a thread on using whole words again. But the gleeful shooting down would be just too easy for all.

And I wouldn't understand it anyway. Big Grin

Google is a clever thing. http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/

There is actually a Google page thing for abbreviations? I'm surprised, though of course I know I shouldn't be. Still prefer whole and entire words though, helps my aging neurons survive a little longer. Smile

iPad? Name's a bit silly, and I'm slightly underwhelmed. I wanted a really kick-ar$e display. OLED and edge-to-edge. The bezel on this looks way to big. Might look better in the "flesh" but I think I'll wait a generation or two before getting one of these thingies.

Very nice, but not particularly revolutionary. Even as a Mac fan, can't say I'll be getting one. Maybe it's more exciting to use than came over in the launch.

Google helped me find the acronym dictionary after typing in NWEOI.

I can't see how I would use it. If I want big I am happy with my macbook pro. If I want portable my iphone does most things and I can talk on it. Plus you need pay monthly for your data downloads on the ipad so more cost. Also i can see myself dropping that thing often with little protection for it. No camera and missing lots of other things. Just a big ipod touch. Won't fit in my pocket. Underwhelming.

Adrian you are a star. Found the same and now have the toolbar too. Feel like a grown up. Cheers. Paul.

I was hoping for something smaller (but bigger than an iPhone), cheaper, and more clearly aimed at the e-Book market.

I think it looks really good. iphone's and ipod touches are too small for me to want to do most of the things you can do on them - which is why I just bought a classic. Also I find laptops really uncomfortable to use if I'm not at a table. This looks much better. I want one.

Same here and the price points are very attractive IMHO.

Looks just what I need - how do you plug it in to a Naim DAC?
