Mike,You beat me to it !

I have never really come into contact with any of his material before.

It came accross as having plenty of drive, rock & rythem.("gutsy")

If I was to dip my toe in the water, what album would you recommend ?

Yup, I bought the album last weekend. It has its moments - 'Ka-boom, Ka-boom' being one of his more 'modest' tunes about being an icon/sex god etc Wink The album has a sort of old fashioned 'Rawk-Tastic' sense about it, wrapped up an appealing nu-metal/industrial wrapper. I might just take a dip into his back catalogue on the strength of this one. Recommended.

Ummm,

I really like Brian and his lovely band they seem like really nice people ..like really musical and a pleasure to listen to! Not at repetitive or too noisy, just right! Yes its truly beautiful.

Its also something I think I should share with the rest of my family..I'm sure they would all enjoy..especially my Mother..who has a particular penchant for teenage americans in angst music..

The highlight for me during the Manson performance on Johnathan last night......... has to be the delightful exposure of red gussets..magical!

Just bought the album. There I am, aged 40 plus, daughters aged 6 and 8 in tow; the girl behind the counter quickly digs under a pile to give me the last MM poster...cool...

Cranked it up while the house was briefly empty; mOBSCENE is a fantastic track, eye wateringly good. Its one of those tracks that comes up every few years as an instant classic; others in that mould IMO Blurs' Song 2, Peach by squiggle / Prince, Zodiac Mindwarps' "Prime Mover" etc. Plus I now have in my minds eye the, er, "Antics" of the high-kicking backing singers.

Fab. The man is an artist.

I adored Mechanical Animals [which I understand hardcore fans thought a bit of a sellout], but found Holywood & American Family [my other dips into the catalogue] that bit less addictive. Would you say that the new one surpasses Animals?

Just ordered "The Golden Age Of Grotesque" online. ( ended up ordering from Tesco's to ensure version with the bonus tracks mentioned above).

( was about to go to shops yesterday when I had a sunny-weather inspired change of plan and went camping for the night.- We had a Really good evening !)

Looking forward to it's arrival.

Hi,
I would have to agree with Throb that Mechanical Animals is probably their best album but Holywood & American Family is very good. One of their first albums(i think)is Smells like Chidren which has got a very good version of Sweet Dreams.
I wondered why my copy of their new album did not have Tainted Love on it,I got it from Play.com ,i think it came from Canada,I will look a bit closer next time(although it did come with a DVD of a film he did which was very strange and probably never watch it again)

Cheers

That's a bit odd - on the strength of this thread I've just ordered the 'Grotesque' special ed. from CD-Wow, which does have Tainted Love, but not the Baboon thingy. Wonder where it comes from? Will wait and see.

He's a silly goth twat (and no, I don't mean Jonathan Ross). MM is for people who haven't got the balls to listen to proper leftfield music (eg Throbbing Gristle et al).

Indeed, but like a fine wine they get better with age.

GPO, Chris, Cosey and Sleazy would probably scare the pants off Brian...

Mr Manson's dad was a priest. It's hardly surprising he turned out like he did! It's hardly fair to call him a goth twat.

I have all the albums. Things have changed quite a bit over the years but the band are good together. Smells like children is amongst my fave albums.

Always worth seeing live if you've got a strong stomach!

Groovers

The album continues to impress. As does the website www.marilynmanson.com

The man is a 21st Century Glam Rocker. Which I view as praise.

Mike,
If you like the glam rock thing that Mr Manson does then you definitely need to get Mechanical Animals - you will not be disappointed. The riffs and choruses on that one are MASSIVE.

Initial impressions: Better than Holywood, but not quite as much fun as Mechanical Animals. Don't go for the slightly more expensive DVD exra disc though, it's not very good - not so much for the visuals, more the irritating soundtrack.

Thanks Simon

Bought Mechanical Animals a day or two ago following comments here - Manson really is impressing me.

I also bought "Smells Like Children" on the strength of the (excellent) cover. My hearing is now slightly damaged Smile

I like Manson. He's funny, articulate, not afraid of saying what's on his mind. In fact, since Frank Zappa passed away, the world needs more outspoken freaks to rattle the cages. I saw Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine, and during the film in an interview with Moore, Manson was making the most sensible and valid arguments IMHO.

A pity then that Jonathan Ross couldn't think of a single decent question to ask him. I don't know if it's Ross who's an arse, or the tired old format of the show which makes him come across that way. At least he got rid of that bloke who used to sit there every week laughing at Ross's gags. Oh well, just my 2 cents.

Alex

Speaking with the zeal of the new convert, I would say that Mechanical Animals is as good. TGAOTG sounds like a development of it, with extra bits thrown in. If you like Grotesque, I reckon you will like MA.

BTW, I have just seen the video of mOBSCENE on Q. Elephants, MM on stilts, 450 costume and dentistry changes, 7 high kicking dancers and I think I saw a dwarf. it is a fantastic piece of theatre.

Big grin, to say the least. This one will win awards.
