IMac questions.

We are seriously considering an iMac, but SWMBO has a big concern.Mainly if she has produced documents in Word on her L/Top can she print them from a stick to a printer connected to an iMac?
My unsupported answer was yes it's just a .doc file.
Anyway perhaps an answer from some one with the appropriate knowledge will put her mind at rest.
TIA.

You will need to obtain a copy of either Iworks or Office fro MAC

Hi Howard
As Symonds14 says, it is dead easy providing you have one of those 2 programs. My iMac (on which I am typing this) has been fabulously reliable. I am "ripping" a CD to iTunes as I type, and have all my wedding pics up on iPhoto at the same time. If you get an iMac, do get as much RAM as you can. It really helps to speed things along.

Yep, although iWorks uses different file types, it converts between its proprietary file types and the Microsoft stuff well enough - provided that the documents are not too complex. Complex styles, formatting in Word and specialist functions and VB macros in Excel might not survive the conversion - but it works OK for most things, I believe.

Now Chris, PCstockton won't approve of your multi-tasking whilst ripping CDs. It's about the error correction, you know. Don't even get him started in iTunes! Winker

Howard

You do not need any Microsoft products to do this - you can use NeoOffice which is free to open and print the documents.

Look familiar

You can do it - no problem

It cause bile to rise, but really office is the best bet for office documents, neo and the rest sort of do it half arsed.

That being said the MS office suite is 99 quid for mac, and I expect if you haggle you arse off in the shop it might be cheaper.
