Show us your toys.

Posted by: Steve G on 15 April 2005

As a relief from the boredom of elections & royal weddings how about a more cheerful post for pictures of our favourite big kids toys.

Here's my latest one, bought last summer and used lots since - but leaving me a lot less cash for other toy purchases:

And a few others from my personal toybox:

In both the above mine is the bike on the left.

I have no problem with success, thank you.

Of all the toys I've owned and don't now have, this is the one I miss the most. *sniff*

Sorry, I was searching for the Harry Enfield quote " I think you'll find I am considerably richer than you"

That is indeed one very cool toy. There is a little airstrip between my home and office and in the evening there are often gliders being flown from their (they have some big cable winch thing for getting them in the air). I often stop to watch them taking off and landing.

"Why not just post a copy of you bank balance?"

Nigel C, I am totally with you on this one.

This thread is another chance for the "show-offs" on this Forum to bore others with personal possessions that have no relevance or interest to anyone except the owner.

I don't agree. We know everyone here (other than Fritz) is into music and hi-fi, but you learn a lot more about people by seeing what their other passions are.

My "toys" are instead of a flash car, a bigger house or expensive holidays but IMHO they add a lot more to my lifestyle than any of those things would - for me. I'm quite sure many (if not most) of the posters on here are richer than me, in fiscal terms at least.

That people on here fly gliders or even *shudder* ride scooters I personally find quite interesting.

To be quite honest if you and Nigel want to be morose then why don't you feck off and do it on some other thread as there are plenty of candidates.

Ian, I don't honestly think that this thread is about bank balance or 'showing off.' If someone chooses to spend what disposable income they have on a given pass time, hobby or whatever, and thinks it may be of interest to others then why not?

If all forms of 'conspicuous consumption' were to be banned from the padded cell, there wouldn't be much left. Just a few quotes from the start of a few recent threads...

"When I reurned from a two week orgy of food indulgence in Tenerife "

"I just got a mountain bike with disk brakes."

"Should I buy a new cheaper computer now,or wait for the next generatin 64 Bits?"

"Hi folks. I;ve been planning to buy a new PowerMac in the next few months. I'd planned to save hard and get the 30" cinema display ..."

"We are thinking of getting a 20-22" 16:9 ratio LCD TV for the bedroom..."

True enough - Mick has crockery that's worth more than my house.

Adam,

my personal transportation device has been ridiculed by several people including some "junior" members.

Can you dispense some official chastisement please, and make them stop mocking BOR. They crossed a line...

Do you work for BMW by any chance? I'm trying to think of a reason why you'd chose to ride that thing? Couldn't you have persuaded them to give you one of those rather lovely R1100S's instead?

Unfortunately when I lived in Munich I didn't have a motorbike which was a chance missed as it must be a great location for biker.

Didn't I read that BMW had canned the C1 because it was a total sales flop?

Brian, I think we should be told.

Yes, may I recommend the thread entitled "am I breaking the law", some right miserable bastards have contributed to that one.

Here's mine. I'm rather proud of the fact that I built it myself, and after 6000 miles it has failed to explode.

No baby, that ain't right. Production was limited to make them more exclusive. They're a collectors item. Like a Ferrari Enzo.

Steve, every Tom, Dick and Fritz has an R1100S. The C1s were only issued to the really cool, stylish, succesful people. I still managed to get one though.
Posted on: 15 April 2005 by Bruce Woodhouse
Ha!

Congratulations, getting the BMW C1 and Ferrari Enzo into the same post is quite an achievement.
