When your PSU fails and no apple reseller locally sells them. No music this weekend then.

You need a NAT05, then you will always have music. It's a nice day; why not go for a country walk?

No CD transport or DVD player knocking around?
Oh and James has a NAT 02, IIRC.

Eggs and baskets come to mind.

Obviously, You could easily have avoided this by just having a CD555 with 2 555PSs. I know that the CD555 is virtually unlistenable with only one PS (sounds broken) but at least you'd have music. But wait, what if your transport failed?

Then you go the either the spare 555 or the spare CDS3 you kept for just such a scanrio. Of course a CDS3 is almost unlistenable as we all know.quote:But wait, what if your transport failed?

Good suggestion - we listened to Jonathan Ross on the Nat02 and then i took the missus shopping. Serious brownie points

All you got for that was brownies?

What we used to call brownies at Prep School got a seious telling off from the Matron, before one washed the offending item of underware ... before it was sent to the lauderers ...

Mini has returned (dodgy logic board)- and so its back to beautiful music again.

Glad to learn you have tunes playing again James, out of interest can I ask how old is the mini and did it have to go Apple for repair?
I had thought from you're first post it was just apple ps and not the mini itself.

14 months - so just out of warranty which is why i'll be taking it up with apple. I did initially suspect the PSU until i got my hands on another one but it turned out to be more serious than that (and a lot more expensive). Saying that its the only one out of 4 other Macs i own which has ever given trouble. It'll be coming apart again tonight as i have an SSD drive to fit to replace the existing hard disk unit.

James, out of curiosity, is the SSD simply for the OSX, i-Tunes and Amarra. Are your rips on a separate HDD?
If so, I would be really interested to learn what difference, if any, you hear by using an SSD rather than the native HDD for running the software.

Yep - that's the idea. The mini is dedicated to audio and all my music is on NAS so i thought i'd follow sonics recommendation and use an SSD. Report to follow
