Kingdom of Rust - Sound Quality

Posted by: seagull on 23 June 2009

I've only recently bought this. I played it last night for the first time, good music but dreadful quality mastering. It sounded so bad I even tried one of my reference CDs to make sure my system wasn't playing up - it wasn't.

I tried KoR on my iPod (with Sennheiser px200s) today - using Apple Lossless it was so bad I had to stop listening to it. I'll try it in the car CD player tomorrow.

Anyone else suffered or is it just me?

(The last two albums that were like this were the last Editors album and the last Radiohead album - both on vinyl Frown)

sometimes Lo Fi works on Hi Fi sometimes it doesn't. I'm not sure what statement they were trying to make with the production if any. I don't find it unbearable tho I see your point!

I suspect from the choice of singles I hear, that they wanted to 'over-master' and leave it wide open for broadcast. Because unfortunately it is mainstream radio that pushes the loudness war. Sounds perfectly normal (as bad as everythnig else) over the BBC airwaves.

Musical content is a strong grower I agree.
