Antony and the Johnsons

Opinions?
Caught a show with songs and interviews on satellite TV and thought his voice remarkable if a little unusual in presentation. At least he could hold a tune which an anorexic Marc Almond spectacularly failed to do.

Quite original.
I remember hearing him long before seeing or reading about Antony and the band.
As you said a remarkable voice and a good album in my book.

You're coming rather late to this, I think. Hit the "Find" button and see.

Nime,
I have their album "I Am A Bird Now" on vinyl - a quietly powerful album if you see what I mean.
Thoroughly recommended.
Cheers,
Jon

Thanks. I'll see if I can get hold of the album. A unique talent I think.
Graham: I looked before posting.

Sorry. I wasn't sure if you'd seen earlier posts and there's some quite interesting stuff there.

Absolutely no need to apologise Graham.
It never hurts to remind us of the forum search facilities.
I have ordered "I am a bird now" on CD.
Thanks also to Jon and Squarepusher.

Mercury prize winner, Mojo and Observer album of the year. This year they got it right.

Well, I'm listening to the "bird" CD for the second time. For some reason it sounds better with the wick turned well up though my wife does not agree. Not as immediately accessible as I expected after the TV show. But worth persevering I think. A remarkable voice. A higher pitch with girly edges but with underlying sense of suppressed power, reinforced by vibrato. One is almost reminded of the castrati. Remarkable sense of timing with emotion in spades. May leave mainstream pop musak for dead but difficult to define which genre he really fits into. Is this top ten material? Does it matter?
BTW: Is Squarepusher a tribute user name or are you the original artist?

it is a stupid thing really...
I used to play games on line and when I first started this was who I was listening to at the time. And well, it stuck....
I do actually quite like his music tho.
In particular,
Hard Normal Daddy & Music is Rotted One Note.

I tried the last but not the former.
"Busy" is a good description I think.
