Anybody using an Ekos with an alternative Phono cable from the Ekos DIN Connector?

Currently, I have an AYRE integrated and CDP. They are coming out with a companion phono stage which has both balanced (XLR) and standard (RCA) type inputs. I am thinking of replacing my Linn Linto and thought that the Ayre phono stage (assuming it will reach a high performance standard) would be a natural match to the rest of my electronics.

In order to perform optimally, Ayre suggests using the balanced inputs. This would require a cable from the DIN connector on my Ekos, that is terminated on the other end with XLR connectors. Ayre gives instructions for making such a cable, on their web site, which includes XLR pin-outs. They are not specific to the Linn TT, but say that the cable needs to be very flexable so as not to compromise TT suspension.

They will be developing their own cable as well. Either way, you are looking at a non-standard EKOS cable. Will this compromise the performance of the Linn TT with respect to the suspension and/or arm. If so, can the standard Ekos cable be reterminated with XLR's instead of RCA jacks?

Has anybody used non-standard cables such as this?

Thanks in Advance,

Jay

Hi Jaybar:

Why not use the existing Ekos cable and rewire for balanced use with a couple of quality XLRs?
