Saint George's Day!

It would not pass if it were Saint Patrick's Day.

A good friend of mine also has a birthday today, and he is a second generation refugee from the 1948 Chinese Revolution, via Vietnam, from where his parents once again escaped the mayhem as well.

It is also our most famous author's birthday, so a good cheer for the "best of British," even though it is really the English day, from me!

Kindest regards from Fredrik

PS: Watch out for May the 17th! Another harmless National day! Guess where?

"Good old St George eh, Major?"

"What's that Fawlty?"

"Well he killed the hideous fire breathing old dragon didn't he?

Ever seen my wife make toast Polly? Puff. Puff."

Big Grin - hugely strong writing on that show.

I tried the DVDs of it on some Polish friends - I think it is some of the funniest stuff ever recorded for TV - and they singularly failed to see the funny side. In fact the response was embarrassingly quiet!

I don't think most people who like the British enjoy seeing us taking the Micheal out ourselves to that degree. I would say that this ability is one of the strengths of the British...

That'll be William Shakespeare our Fredders; he was born on the 23rd of April 1564 and died 23rd of April 1616, which is quite convenient for my old memory bank!

GEORGE AND THE DRAGON

A quality sitcom with two stars who had known and respected each other for many years. Sid James said Peggy Mount had many qualities he had noticed in his own mother, for Peggy Mount was, in true life, anything but the battle-axe she invariably portrayed. From her point of view she found Sid James was an unselfish and generous actor who never tried to hog the limelight.

I thought the "thought" would be enough, as I thought you disapproved of smoking! ATB from Fredrik [Thoughtful Smiley]!

Talking of St.George and cigars...
Every year for the last 15 myself andtwo old school friends have gathered wih a few others to enjoy a few bevvies, a great meal, and a good cigar and port to top it all off.

Yesterday was no exception, and we gathered in town at Borough Market to do "the usual"

It amused me, though, to do a line up of the nationalities within our little group:

One half English/half Scot (myself)
One half Antiguan/half Cornish (replete with Cornish kilt)
One half English/half Welsh
One Irish
One Dutch
One Danish

The irony of this was not lost on me Smile

All told though, an excellent annual excursion with the guys.
