Artist royalties

I have been wondering about my visits to Amazon that usually result in me buying CD's used for very little cash. If I buy a new CD it will be because it's a new release, and again I'll shop for a good price. I'm still amazed that people go to HMV or Virgin and pay £12-15.
I was wondering what the artist gets from a sale of say £12 at HMV compared to £6 on Amazon for a new CD. Does the artist get the same amount either way?
I'm feeling guilty because of buying used all the time. Especially for small bands that could do with the money. Frown

I would think so Rasher; the artist probably only gets 50p per album no matter where it is sold, the rest being overheads and profit for the company selling it?

At least 90% mark-up profit on Music albums

HMV pay about £5 for a CD. The artist or band will see about 90p of that (once they've repaid all the recording costs etc). If you see the same album in the sale for a fiver, the record company will have normally reduced the royalty payment to the artist pro rata.

90 pence? Divyded between how many?

Sounds like you need a new Manager (assuming you're the same Michael Dale from Embrace who used to post here on a regulae basis)
