Isotek Range
Posted by: NB on 04 January 2004
Its probably been covered many times but whats the low-down on the Isotek range of mains filters.
Being on an old mains sistem I am looking to acheive an improvement in mains quality without the inconvenience of re-wirning etc.
Can the Isotek range be recomended with Naim kit or is it well left alone?
Regards and happy new year.

I already have a musicworks block, it helps but the sistem still suffers from poor mains. Its sounding pretty good at the moment though

Personally I'd recommend CDS3/552/Active 500 into NBLs

I would prefer CDS3/552/500's into MF9's

Russ andrew's do some things that stop other appliances (fridges etc) dumping noise onto the mains

Its not the clicks that are the problem, its the spikes in the supply. We had one yesterday that knocked the TV and satelite sistem out when we were watching it!

We are going a step further than that, we are changing houses. We are fed up with the average light bulb lasting weeks! We move in less than a month

Tom,
I know you don't rate the Isotek stuff but what about the new Isotek powerstation coming out/
Worth an audition?

Actively enjoying it all
DBLs totally blows the NBLs away but otherwister I second You Tom, especially about all filters etc kills the music from naims electronics.

I have tried the isotek range and this thread maybe of interest ...
http://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums?q=Y&a=tpc&s=67019385&f=48019385&m=5071960476&p=1
But bottom line for me was I upgraded to 82+250 to get what I wanted (for near enough the same cost as an isotek sub)

Very interesting reading Phil, the impression I get is that the Isotek sounds good in the short term but longer listening reveals shortcomings.
The last thing I want to do is screw up the timing of the music.

The new house is only three years old so I am hoping that it should have a much better mains supply.

You are probably going to redecorate anyway so why not invest a few quid in getting the mains sorted out before you do. Given the quality of your system, you really owe it to yourself.
Other than that keep an eye on Tom's leaving thread - the Ben Duncan conditioner was a bit disappointing.

Dave,
I will keep an eye on Tom's thread and in particular any comments on the Ben Duncan conditioner.
May I ask in what way you thought it was dissapointing?

Hmmm it affects bass extension. I don't like the sound of that. Having listened to speakers for many months and finding the speaker with the best bass performance I don't want to start playing arounf with it.
The Neat have such a rich midband as well I don't think I want to start playing around with that either. What I am looking for is something that will open up the treble a little, my sistem still sounds a little dull and laid back.

Improving your Mains will give you that.
