I've got a chance to purchase an Empire 698 turntable in excellent condition. It has an Ortofon MC20 cartridge near the end of it's life. I would appreciate some information from anyone who knows something about these TT's.

This turntable was around for a long time but when the Linn hit the scene it just faded away.
Empire made a very good MM cartridge - 1000ZEX this was a more popular product.
A friend of mine had one but it never really was as good as the Thorens TD125 (MkI) let alone the Linn Sondek.
Buy it if it is cheap and keep it as an interesting last century conversation piece.
