Uniti CD mechanism problem returns
Posted by: Vik71 on 14 September 2010
Barely 4 months after having been repaired the disc beneath the magnetic puck has come off again. Uniti will have to go back to dealer again for at least 2 weeks....Must mention that CD playback is used sporadically and always with great care. Has anybody else experienced the same 2nd time around?

Viktor: it happened once to me but the dealer told me that Naim had instructions for proper removal and attachment of the puck (see FAQ), requiring the puck to be tilted sideways and away rather than a vertical upthrust pull (same with attachment). How did you remove and attach the puck? Adhering to these instructions I have not experienced any further issues.

In now way should it be so sensitive that the puck has to be removed in a delicate manner. As Doug said, Naim will take care of it's customers experiencing this issue.

It certainly does need to be handled in a special way. Take a look at this link from Naim's FAQ

You are making a valid point about the FAQ-suggested technique which I only became aware of afer the Uniti was repaired the first time. As a preventative measure though, including this particular Tip (regarding the magnetic puck) as a standard sentence in the product manuals would make a lot of sense to me.
Nevermind, I am happy to confirm that thanks to some great coordination between Naim HQ, my dealer and the Swiss distributor my unit is being sorted out very quickly and I should have it back with me shortly.

Whilst correct that we recommend that the puck is "tilted" off when removed this is mainly to relieve loading up the suspension of the mechanism when changing discs ... Viktor certainly appears to have been the recipient of some bad luck here and hopefully he'll be sorted and happy very soon...

I had the same problem with my first Uniti.
All congrats to Naim and my dealer - they replaced it with no fuss.
I think you just have to be sensible and careful with the puck.
Which I am now!!!!
And, BTW, still have to say getting into Naim has been a revelation in my music listening. Bliss.

My thoughts exactly. I love my Uniti.
