Copy protection

Posted by: andy c on 09 May 2003

I know this topic has been discussed already within these forums, but thought I'd mention what I'd found out to any one of you that purchases Cd's online.
Three of the last four Cd's I have purchased from CD-WOW have had copy protection (Massive attack, Placebo, Martin Gore) and therefore would not play on my CD 3.5 (not yet upgraded). CD-WOW have been asked by me on numerous occasions to mention on their site if a CD has such protection on it, and have not doen so. They were really good with refunds I do have to say. I then purchased the same cd's from Play.com. They were not copy protected. I have also made enqs and Audiostreets CD's are not protected either.
If this info is already on the forum apologies for the duplication. Only trying to help... Smile

Hi Bosh,
Bugger.
That means Auidostreet for me then and approx £2 more per cd until I get the upgrade done to my cd. Did U change your Placebo cd for a non-protected version? If you did was there any change in sound quality?

Got a refund from Play and a UK pressing from Fopp. The sound quality is slightly better with the UK pressing

Fopp are on the high street. I use the Sheffield branch mostly but have also used the one in Nottingham (on the road that goes from the theatrwe royal to market square ??Queen Street??)

Their no quibble "suck it and see" policy is superb and they have masses of mid price stuff for a fiver. Sheffield staff very knowlegdable and helpful. Very highly recommended
