Does anybody know at what serial # are the 007 transistors included in a late model 250 amp?
Thanks in advance

NAP250 model that were built from Jan 2001 till the time they were discontinued (just recently). According to Naim Audio website NAP250 with serial number starting from 170623 to 18xxxx

Well, that means within within approximately 2 years (January 2001 till now let's say) Naim sells around 3000 NAP250 What a success business -- CONGRATS.

Sorry chaps I must be cracking up! I thought we were talkng about the 001.
007 was introduced for the first time on the 500.
The 007 has only recently been used on the 250, I will get the exact serial number for you on Monday.
If you send the amp back for service this does not normally include changeing output transistors. This is a very costly affair.
If they do need replacing I believe we still have some 001's for service but after they have gone it will all be 007.

When that happens, I can see this leading to a flood of people sending in their 140's/180's/250's/135's for "servicing"

It's just a matter of price, I'm sure, if you ask Naim to change your output trans 001 for 007, they will do it with pleasure. But the bill will not be pleasant for you.

The new 250 is not only a change of transistors, everything has changed.
The new transformer won't fit in an old box.

007's.
First used in the 250 ps module not amp circuit( we wished to preserve stocks of 001)
Jan 2001 serial numbers after 170623.
We will offer an update in the future of 007 transistors for the 250 but this will include a new power amp module incorporating current 250 circuity.

Knew holding back on the 250 service was a good idea, i had a feeling some mods would be offered.
Suppose its not a real new 250, but close enough, but at what cost ?

Hopefully this will also be offered for the 135s taking them some of the way towards the still-awaited 145. Right now the only upgrade for the 135s is to sell them off second hand and come up with the extra $7kUSD for each NAP300. I may be much more inclined having the 135s updated and applying the 'savings' towards the 552.

My impression is that there are 2 amp boards and one power supply board in a recently made NAP250 (olive case). If we upgrade the olive case NAP250, does it mean that we have to buy all the new electronics inside the box and the only think that will be kept is the transformer and the 2 large capacitors. Am I correct on this? Can you tell us what kind of improvement that we will get with the upgrade (I know that my amp runs much cooler but what else?). Thanks.

It's still too early to tell what upgrades may or may not be available. We will be working on the issue this year so please be patient...

Were 007 transistors introduced into the 135s power supply at the same time as the 250?
Has anyone actually compared the 135/007 with the earlier, all 001, edition? The reason I ask is that I heard, what was to me, a surprising comment made recently by a 135 owner.

Hi
Mark at Naim felt the 007's on just the power reg boards(can be fitted to all 250's/135's) were not a great VFM upgrade at £90ish a box(I have 4x135's) However if they can be used on new designed 250/135 amp boards as proposed above that would be a different proposition.
The late olive 250's and 135's have them only on the power boards(not a huge upgrade apparently but I've not heard them). The 250 and 135 amp boards are apparently too unstable for 007's without the proposed redesign.
Is it me or have Naim power amps become disturbingly complicated.
I have 4x135's(oldish and just serviced) should I go 2xnew 250's active or 1x 300passive or what about 4x145 or perhaps just 007 my 135's or perhaps swap them for last 135's then 007upgrade later---but are they better than 2x new250 aahhhh!! All are similar money--not sure my dealer will be able to sort out that lot.
Regards Richard
PS or what about 4x200.......

The voice of calm....You have just had your 135's serviced, and they sound wonderful. Just because there is possibly something further that could be done to them in the future, doesn't mean you have to beat yourself up about it. There is no end to that route. 4x serviced 135's sounds heaven to me.

I've taken a chill pill daddio!!
I don't have a definate need to upgrade--but am mindful my 135's may start price freefall when new style 250's 300's become available secondhand.
S/h price of my snaxo/135's would equal that of a new 300 or 135's near 2x new 250's--so could be a no cost upgrade(?'sidegrade'). Unfortunately there is probably no way of finding out. Fog has dropped over the naim poweramp upgrade path.
