Best mix/compilation al***s

There’s loads of mix and compilation CD’s around at the moment. Most of them are rubbish. I often find that I have a particular piece of dance music on 12 inch single but I want it on a CD so I get a mix CD with it on, and they’ve messed around with it so much that it bears little relation to the original, and not in a good way.
However there are some mix or compilation CD’s and series that are very good. Here’s my top 5.
1. Hospital Mix. 5 in the series so far. Drum and bass mixes of Hospital records releases. They also cost £3.99 each – the traditional idea for a sampler.
2. On-U-Sounds. There are loads of great compilation albums from Adrian Sherwood. Favourites are the Pay It All Back Series, the Pressure Sounds Compilations and Disco Plates Volumes 1 and 2
3. Alien Ambient Galaxy –an ambient compilation featuring Bill Laswell, Jah Wobble and Pete Namlook
4. Ministry of Sound. The first 8 mix cd’s are very good. The Masters at Work is generally held to be the best
5. Reggae Hits. Good if you like bashment. My favourite is 33 because of the Elephant man and Marvia Providence, both of which use the Scooby rhythm.
