I am offered a pair of Kans; how can I state which version they are?

Thanks for your help,

Kans are brilliant.

I have Kan 1's but have just sold them and am buying a mint pair of Kan 2's tomorrow (one of the last models made). The Kans will ultimately be used as rear/surround speakers.

I have been using my spare pair in my main system (LP12/01/CDS2/52/135) for a few weeks and they were great. I really enjoyed them.

My main speakers are SBL's and they have been reinstalled in my system now and while they are better in just about everyway, Kans are a bit quicker and are very musical.

regards

I am building a Kan-system for my sister-in-law; I plan to use CD3.5/72/140: what do you think? And: How much schould I pay for a pair of Kans?

Were they the ones on Loot at £250?

I'm getting rid of my binding post Mk1s and Sound Org wall shelves (and Appollo stands), based on your experience what should I ask for them. My dealer reckons theyre worth £100-125 trade but I'd hoped for more like £175-200

Hi Bosh,
I ended up selling them for £200. They were in mint condition and had the Kan 2 stands. The Kan 2 that I am buying are just a lot newer (one of the last ever made) and will be used for surround sound duties.
Hope that helps

I acquired a pair of Kan 1s as part of the Linn Mimik/NAC92/NAP90/3 system I currently have. Unfortunately, I foolishly decided that I didn't like the sound on first hearing (because rather than setting them up properly on stands, I balanced them on top of my Acoustic Energy floorstanders) and I decided to sell them.

So a guy sees the ad and says he'd like to hear them. I do the decent thing and remove the AEs from the listening room and set the Kans up on stands, backs to the wall. He comes round, I press play, he likes, I think "Oh s--t, I'm selling the wrong speakers". He gives me £175 so he can use them on a Pioneer amp in a fledgling home cinema setup. I'm choked because I didn't have the guts to tell him I wanted to keep them.

Ah well...

They got worse as they 'matured'.

Linn tamed them, to make them more acceptable and sound 'warmer'.

The latest bi-wireable ones were pretty thick sounding by comparison. I swapped them for a pair of 2's that were better, but if you have a really good front end and a ballsy amp; the originals are best I reckon.

I ran a pair of early ones on 135's for a time and they were superb.
