eBay etiquette

I recently sold an item on eBay, received the payment and dispatched the item. I have not had any complaints, so I assume the item arrived okay, however I have not had any feedback. That kind of irks me, since it's a little impolite. Is there anything one can do about it? Do you think it's worth emailing the buyer - just to check it arrived okay, and mention that he hasn't left feedback.
Any suggestions.

Just got back from shopping, and one of the supermarket cashiers just this moment rang me to ask if my cheese tasted OK, now that's service, innit

I know how you feel, I have sold a fair few things in the last 6 weeks and have only had feedback for around 50% of the things I sold. Sadly, I don't think there is too much that can be done about it. I'm just glad that the feedback I have already is 100% positive so if people do read up on me it's all good.

Once I've received the item (within reasonable time and in good nick), I leave some positive feedback, inform the vendor and invite them to do likewise. This has not failed yet.

When I am selling I leave feedback as soon as the payment has cleared as I feel that the buyer has trusted my description and therefore paid for the goods upfront.
When I am buying I always pay rapidly for the said item and I therefore expect feedback first.

Custard,
I agree entirely (and that incidentally is exactly what I do). It's just a shame that not everyone else does, otherwise the system won't work.

Never expect reciprocal manners from anybody these days. Expect simple basic honesty at your peril.
I paid the asking price and well over the odds for double wrapping and the extra postage to Europe on an a Yamaha processor. The bugger just pocketed the difference and sent the item in the manufacturer's box with badly applied brown sticky tape. Can't trust anyone these days.

Nime, you're quite right, of course. It would just be nice if everybody could behave properly.....

Tam,
Courtesy and good manners cost nothing. I always provide feedback the moment an item arrives or a payment is made.
There are feedback prompts on ebay as you know, so someone not providing feedback is not doing it through ignorance of the opportunity to say thank you. They have chosen not to bother.
Feedback is reciprocal so you could alway add an appropriate comment if you were feeling waspish enough.
I am about to have a mutter at a guy who sold me a couple of "mint" lps which have turned out to be so crackly that I think they may have been used on a deck using a safety pin for a diamond. One of us must have cloth ears and it certainly isn't me.
