MM vs MC; boards vs phono stage..?

Hello,

Been a CD-lubber for too long, and have just invested in a turntable upgrade. I have plenty of vinyl, which till now has been played one of my Technics 1210s with Ortofon Nightclub E DJ cartridges.

New turntable is a Pro-Ject Perspective, with standard Ortofon 9 arm, which will be run through 72 / Hi / 140 and Epos ES22s. The 72 has 322 MM boards fitted.

My question is what sort of cartridge to go for. I know nothing about 'proper' cartridges, but I'd like to get the most out of the turntable. If I go for an MC cartridge, I'll either need to buy an external phono stage or some new boards for the 72 (but do I get 323 K or 323 S?). If I use a MM cart, I can use the boards in the 72, or again invest in an external phono stage.

I can't really afford to spend more than about £300 altogether at the moment. What combination would be best? Happy to buy gear second hand.

Any advice much appreciated! If this subject has been covered, please point me to the relevant thread.

TVM.

MM, like a Linn Adikt or Shure V15V-MR or Grado or Rega, or a high output MC, like a Dynavector 10x5 or a low end Benz will work with the 322 boards.
