CD5 users: should I be concerned?

Posted by: kentonious on 21 February 2002

Was moving 2-week old CD5 to new room and(not
thinking, argh!) tilted it way forward with
CD drawer opening with a thud and tossing
CD and puck to floor. Hooked everything back
up and sounds find--still sounding better and
better during break-in. I am being too paranoid--when room is dead quiet with ear about 12
inches player when closing drawer, I hear a small
noise--doesn't impede drawer being shut, but
that the drawer is touching something---it may
have done this all along--perhaps part of the
mechanism and/or to alert the player CD is ready
to be read? Anyway, thanks for input.

It could be the ribbon tape that connects the drawer to the main board. This normally forms a loop within itself as the drawer opens and shuts but if you've over extended it and straightened out the loop it may now be fouling the case as it folds back on itself.

Nothing to worry about too much.

Have your dealer take a look if you're really bothered by it.

Hope this helps

Mine does it.

It's the ribbon cable folding.

I'm glad it's nothing....this player is awesome..changes the whole way I listen to music.
and don't even have a flatcap2 yet.

There is a small microswitch which tells the CDP that the drawer is shut so that it can read the disk, this makes a bit of a noise when pushing it closed.

Stop panicking.

don't worry

there's a lot of space, it seems, behind the drawer. My CD5 ate the clamp a while ago, and it's still in there. No problem whatsoever.

Just try to keep the box level henceforth, and get a flatcap as soon as you can.

The microswitch on ours goes "pik", very quietly, when the door is about 5mm off closed.

It also used to do the ribbon cable "fuddaunch", but that's easy to fix if you have a torque wrench.
