Dreadful acting
Posted by: Rasher on 06 April 2006
There seem to be so many great actors around at the moment that it seems even more inexcusable for there to be some that are simply cringesome. I still think of that dreaful performance of John Cleese in A Fish Called Wanda that was so bad, I can remember it even now 20 years later! He came on as this gushing, limp, wet blanket - much like Orlando Bloom does so well (badly) now. They both spent all their screen time doing that "crumpled eyebrow pinched sincerity" look that makes me puke. Why on earth Orlando Bloom gets the decent roles is beyond me.
Maybe it's because the general standard of acting on film & TV is now so high, that the bad ones stand out so much.
Okay...rant over.

Witness the scintillating performances of Jessica Simpson and Johnny Knoxville in "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie, then tell me acting is dead.
And yet, they were snubbed by The Academy. The injustice of it reeks of a fix.

Watch HBO's show Entourage. It's a very interesting look at inside the Hollywood scene. first I was irritated by it all. So surface, then I got to laugh at it and enjoy the show, at moments its just ourtageous. Tho I still hate bad acting, it just shows your there's a whole lotta spin going on behind what's on the screen.

Apparently Phil Daniels' acting in Eastenders has been described as extremely poor, although I haven't seen it myself (no...honest), but I watched Quadrophenia last night and his performance in that was Oscar worthy! He was brilliant.

Kiera Knightly in bend it like beckham. Her accent moves all over the place, and the acting is truly dire.
