Controlling HDX via Flash browser - issues

Posted by: Et in Arcadia on 04 July 2009

I have just acquired a Nokia E71. I have downloaded and installed Skyfire which claims to be a Flash enabled browser. I can access the web and also my router and Wireless Access point on our LAN. However I cannot access my HDC using the http://nshdxxxx/index.html?movie=fp.swf as per the manual. I can access and control the HDX via the other PCs on the network. Am I doing something wrong or is there some basic incompatibility here? Advice appreciated.

Find out the IP address your HDX is using, put this in place of nshdxxx

Garyi, tried your suggestion. Browser just searches until it stops without finding the HDX; this is a slight difference from using the "nshdxxxx" formulation but equally fruitless.

One thing that strikes me is that at no point have I identified to the phone what the name of my home network is and I cannot "see" the phone via My Network Places. However the phone can see certain devices on the home network. I am baffled. Any further suggestions?

Um sounds like you might have the phone on a different subnet or something.

I guess you must have put the wireless address in at some point? Do you have wireless security enabled?

finally can you connect to the hdx via a browser on one of your PCs?

Not every version of Flash is compatible with the Naimnet servers. I haven't seem many portable ones that are. Try talking to your dealer or Naim. The Nokia and the HDX would of course have to be connected to the home network to have any chance of seeing the HDX.

I am using WPA and Mac addressing; the phone logs on to the network with no problems and accesses the internet OK. I can see the HDX from all my PCs.

What I can't do is see the phone as a connected device as part of the network in My Network Places (this is under XP Pro). That seems odd; as if the phone is "on" the network but not "in" it as it were.

The phone need not provide a NetBIOS name in order to function–but I'd definitely confirm that you have the correct IP address for the server, AND (very important) that the browser supports the full version of Flash Player (as the N770 / N800 / N810), rather than the Lite version.
