Question about DIN wiring

Posted by: Top Cat on 12 December 2003

Hi folks.

I've a little question about the wiring of DIN plugs. I'm moving from a DNM amp system to a Naim one, and of course the DNM also uses DIN plugs. Where things are different is that the DNM has a seperate earth for both left and right. So, looking at the pins (at the back of the amp, left to right), they go something like ++00u (where u is unused)

If I use a cable that's wired up like this with the Naim will it pose any electrical problems? In other words, with the seperate earths, won't one channel be 'un-earthed' when attached to the Naim, and if so can this be dangerous to the source that is connected?

I'm asking because I've tried it and there's no obvious sonic problems, but I'm wary of it just in case it could damage either the Naim amp or the source (cd player in this case).

Can anyone advise?

John
