Where in the world ...

Anyone on the forum live in the north of Sweden ? Naim re-sellers are thin on the ground up here, but that does not mean to say that there are no Naim systems up here.

does increased forum activity from the likes of sweden and netherlands, germany(on-and-off), france(on-and-off) indicate some sort of "flat earth" map developing there? for example, not much forum activity from denmark, finland, spain, italy(?), belgium(?). of course, forum activity should not necessarily lead me to these feeble conclusions.

but what is it about UK that it should be the grand dad of flat earth?

Linn seem to have a good presence in Sweden. My local hi-fi shop is a Linn dealer. Whilst they occaisionally get some 2nd hand Naim stuff in, this is not often. Even if there is a Naim dealer in, for example, Umea - the next 'big' town down the coast, it is a three hour drive for me.

I was told that (Many years ago) the main importer for Sweden added a heafty mark-up, making Naim less competetive than it should be. I have no idea what the current situation is on that front, nor how active Naim are in 'selling' their equipment/brand on mainland Europe. There must be a break even point in terms of volume to make dealer training and support worthwhile. Also the strength of the pound (at least against the Swedish Krona) must affect how worthwhile a given market - country - is.

Any comments from the marketing folk ?

The fact that the forum is in English could be a barrier for some contributors from southern Europe, like Belgium wink, France, Spain, etc.
I work in a multinational European environment where French is (still) the working language. There is a clear preference for French by the Portugese, Spanish, French (of course), Italians, Belgians and Luxembourgish. English is in general preferred by the Irish, English, Dutch, Germans, Austrians, Greeks (depends on education), Danes, Finnish and Swedes.

How do you call somebody who speakes three languages? Trilingual

How do you call somebody who speakes two languages? Bilingual

How do you call somebody who only speakes one language? French or American big grin

Ciao!

David,

"I was told that (Many years ago) the main importer for Sweden added a heafty mark-up, making Naim less competetive than it should be."

Reply from southern Sweden:

It's possible that there was a mark-up in those days when Euphonia was around, but I don't know anything about the naim situation in Sweden prior to -94. Nowadays I don't think there is a main importer. I think all Swedish naim dealers are dealing with naim UK directly and that there is no particular mark-up. I think the prices are directly comparable to the prices in the UK.

The Swedish naim dealers that I know of are:

Tonlaget HiFi (Gothenburg)
HiFi Art (Stockholm)
Lasses HiFi (Falun and Borlänge)

Are there any other dealers around?

also sells Naim in Stockholm. It's a real shame that there is no Naim dealer north of Falun.
