Wasted quite a bit of my time -
just finished The Sword of Honour Trilogy (Waugh) and, after the slight, and usual, Catholic mess of the final instalment, going to float in the pool with Decline & Fall.

Wot happened to the bun fight? I interrupted the book I was reading to keep abreast of developments.

About so much more than simply the bombing mission over Port Stanley airfield during the Falklands conflict. Tireless, ingenious types fighting all the way against lazy, bureaucratic government administration that should shame them if they could be bothered to read it. Would be all the funnier if it wasn't true and still so obviously relevant to current issues.

Not much of a book if so may are giving up early on? You really shouldn't have to work hard at a book for "entertainment".

I'll persevere a while longer - main problem methinks is that Anja also told me the main premise of the book and perhaps that has spoilt it a little.

Some of my favourite books were ones that I had to work hard on initially (I don't count Never Let Me Go in this category).
I think books can be a bit like music in this regard. Somethings are very accessible and don't need much effort others are harder but ultimately reward the investment in effort put into them.
I was tempted to give up with several books that I would put in my favourites list now. Rushdie - Midnights Children
Ford - Sportswriter trilogy
Updike - the Rabbit books
However, I accept that if someone has revealed the concept it is not going to be as much fun.
Cheers
