I've heard the best of the best.....

Hi,

Yesterday I had the pleasure to listen to:

LP12 (top level)/CDX/XPS, NAC 552, NAP 500 together with 2x135, ProAc R4.

I don't want to tell you how good it was in detail, but the difference to my own system is of course dramatic. There's still a long way to go......

There's one question that comes to my mind:
Above system is about £50'000.-- of course far too much for me. Not that I couldn't work, let's say at least 7 years to save enough money, but it's simply not reasonable, isn't it?

How far do you go when saving for new components?

have a nice day.

Reto

CDX-XPS, NAC102, NAPSC, Hi-Cap, NAP 250, Naim Fraim, Chord Odysee 4, ProAc Response 2.5

In the old days when the 52 was top of the range, quite a lot of weeks ago now!! I used to be able to save a small amount of cash, sell the current Naim item and do 6 months interest free with the dealer and have my new bit of kit.

Can't do that now with the 552, 500 or even 300. So either I'll have to stop or save up for so long that I'll be old and deaf by the time I've got enough for a 552/500.

Tim confused

"Can't do that now with the 552, 500 or even 300"

Well, the good news for you is that it's actually 'only' around £25000 (and you've already got the cdx/xps), so start saving.

I thought the 300 was around GBP4,700 and my 52 head unit was only 3,600. Plus I forgot to mention I'd need 2 300s, active man, not going back to passive unless its DBLs and a 500.

Tim cool

believe that 500 dbl is passivly better
then whatever active???

One thought about choosing a speaker
is room compatibility, isn't it?
So, in some rooms a dbl does not fit.
Wouldn't it be better in such cases
to stay active say with sl2 or whatever?

Comparing active to passive systems, the
active presentation of music shows a better
involvement into the music.
The passive xover seems to be a sucker of
current, which in effect isn't used for driving
the speakers.
A 500 passiv with SBL's is a nice system, but
starts to sing with a 552... .
Here a 300 active is a little less from 500...
so why not using the lower affordable amps?

Interested, i would be in a comparison with
4pac 135 against 2 * 250. The new 250 shows
much more suverenity then the "old" 135.

Bye the way anyone knows about a snaxo mod for
sl2's?

Regards
