As a kid I used to listen to the halcyon days of Liverpool in Europe with a little transistor radio and earpiece, buried under the covers whilst my parents thought I was asleep. It all seemed so exotic and far away.
Last night was just great, they could not just go and win it 'normally' could they, it had to be a drama. For a team with so few home-grown players it seemed a curiously 'British' performance somehow. When Dudek did the wobbly legs routine I felt genuinely sorry for the penalty taker.

In the 1st half Liverpool were given a lesson in European football, but in the 2nd half they returned the favour with a lesson in British football. Gerrard in particular was immense (including a very competent dive for the penalty and a fine defensive performance in extra time) and must have added a few more quid to an already high price tag.
I thought Dudeks antics at the penalties were embarrassing but effective. For the 2nd one he saved though he was miles off his line and that one should have been re-taken.
One of my colleagues is a Liverpool fan and I'll be amazed if we see him at all today!
Regards

Here's how it was for me:
After a good few hours preparation I sat before the box, thuringer sausages, french bread and all the triimings in hand, plus an ice cold Bud or ten naturally. After a few seconds of the game (for some reason) for the first tine'ever' I decided I'd have some BBC WS commentary along with the telly (Sat 1 Geee-meeen) the Geezer screams GOOOOOOaaal, as the Milano is still sizin up his kick, in other words the Beeb was really live, and the TV came 5-10 seconds later. I switched that off pronto, and got into my usual Germish commentary which is just as good (but always biased). At half time I really couildn't take any more, and thought they were gettin massacered, so I turned it off and went to my local. My local is probably the only boozer in Berlin that as well as having a very limited amount of spirits, also has no telly or radio (just good loud music from behind the bar our/barstaffs choice). I sat outside (full moon ish) as it's finally hot here, and told an old non football (sport generally)git about the game, he fucked off bored on his cycle. Ten minutes later he rang the boozer upo to say it was 3-3, I said Fuck off you wind up hippy git go and play wiv yore lettuces).
Some hour later peeps started to roll in (mainly students) and shakin my hand. as if I'm some cool guc extraordinaire, Wot Wot ? I said, They only bloody won didn't they !
I've just got up (still haven't seen the game) § bottles of fizz on my tab at least, Liverpool must be going crazy today (and the next 3) it's a Catholic holiday in many parts of Europe, and I suspect the Reds will be thanking God too for something, innit.
Fritz Von I toasted John Lennon a hundred times last night(I think) and he was a strawberry fields supporter (Childrens home which closed last year) innit

Liverpool again did very well against all their odds, and I enjoyed seeing several shots etc actually cross line - best Cup Final comeback I've seen in 40 years. EUFA still ranting on how they can only be in next season's comp. if FA etc boot out Chelsea or Arse. or M.Ut or Ever ....

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right

Unlike myself, who'll soon be re-crashin t'me old scratcher, many Cliverppol fans returning/and being there to-boot for the Notty Ash celebrations will probably be flyin on that illegal substance called Cocaine Charlie/Speed/White/wizz/or whatever Coz it's not allowed, and/but becuase we're freemasons and a large percentage of the UK population takes it regular like, and there's loads of dosh involved.

I'm not a footie fan at all (it's for overgrown schoolboys who get paid too much for doing nothing, eh, Beckham and Roony), but that aside, I saw the penalties last night.
I have to agree with my housemate - that penalty should have been disallowed. That Saturday Night Fever dance routine was highly unfair and unsporting.
Posted on: 26 May 2005 by Steve G
The dance routine is supposedly allowed, however for the second Milan penalty Dudek advanced a considerable distance before the ball was struck and therefore that one certainly should have been retaken.

I don’t think I have ever watched a game of football all the way through in my life, let alone go to a match, but I watched the extra time and penalty shoot out last night.
I thought it was quite entertaining (if that’s your thing) but the highlight was Dudek and his dance, I have never seen anything like it, so blatant and unsporting yet so effective, why is this not done at every penalty?
I loved it,
John.

Last night (or afternoon as it was here) as a Liverpool fan had me almost crying with despair at being totally embarassed and outclassed on European club footballs biggest stage. From that to still trying to believe that there was a glimmer of hope at half time, even if it was just restoring a bit of pride.
When Gerrard put that first one, I was jumping up and down and with the way Liverpool had started the 2nd half the belief was coming back, and when Vladi stuck in the second I was pinching myself not really being able to believe what was going on.
Then Gerrard went down and Alonso stepped up and it felt like maybe it wasn't going our way as Dida saved it, but only for milli seconds as he thumped in the rebound.
After seeing out extra time with a very resolute last 30 minutes, Dudek was superb. The pictures from Liverpool today looked mad.
