In a vein similar to that of the 'Worst Song' thread, which album has disappointed you most on first (and any subsequent) listen?
This doesn't have to be because the music was bad, but could be just not what you expected to hear.
Me, I'm going for Midnite Vultures by Beck. This represented too much of a change in direction from his previous albums which I loved (although much of the first album is pretty unlistenable)
A close second would be Phantom 51 by the North Mississippi Allstars. Music is fine, but I think the standard of their debut album (Shake Hands With Shorty) was too much to live up to.

One of my favourite songs is "I dont want to talk about it" performed by EBTG. I even like the Tod Terry remix of Missing. However, Temperamental just doesn't do it for me. It sounds like it was produced by a school pupil for there exam coursework...
It is just doensn't generate any enthusiaism in me, I guess maybe I just miss its point...

I suppose this thread could be extended into another that has been on my mind for quite a while.
How about bands that delivered a great debut, then went onto commercial success with subsequent albums that are much worse than their debut.
My observations here include
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish
Lenny Kravitz - Let Love Rule
PJ Harvey - Dry (although this has been spoilt to some extent by Songs From...)
Pixies - Surfer Rosa (if I'm allowed to include the mini album with this)
Guns'N'Roses - Appetite for Destruction (although this doesn't strictly adhere to the pattern since it was huge in itself)
Any more in this vein? Dire Straits mentioned somewhere above certainly would.
