Best Duran Duran CD?

Looking for a suggestion for a best choice studio recording? Any ideas?

Hmmm and there was me thinking I was the only Duran Duran fan here (or at least the only one who will admit it!!).

If you want the definitive Duran Duran sound I'd suggest either their first album Duran Duran or the 'classic' Rio.

My personal preference is for Big Thing which is fantastically recorded with amazing bass energy and a good deal more maturity than the above albums.

Also of interest is Strange Behaviour which is a compilation of 12" mixes and is great fun.

"Rio" without a shadow of a doubt.

Their debut IMHO. Rio is so much more glitzy - the first alb still holds that 'first listen' appeal for me, even after all these years. Doesn't suffer some of the contrived studio production techniques that feature on Rio.

Oh my gawd - a debate on the relative merits of duran duran albums. best I get my hair razor-cut and find that kamakaze headband... Red Face

Rico,

Yep I have that first albumn and I think the lack of glitzy put me off it a bit but has some great songs of course. Sounds a bit flat in comarison.

I love side 2 of the Rio album. The last track is my fav.

Both "Rio" AND "Duran Duran" are great - the basslines on both are sorted, for starters.

"Skin trade" is ALSO on "Decade", if you're in a pedantic mood - he he Winker

I've got "Decade" on Laserdisc (US pressing). The bassline on "Planet Earth" sounds absolutely awesome on the analog soundtrack - no "crackle and pop" and great dynamics. The digital soundtrack sounds very flat in comparison...
