What to expect from a Nait-2 service?

Hiya folks.

My wife rather likes her Nait-2, which we've now had for a little under three years. I don't think it has ever been recapped, and more recently its power chord has been 'bunnied' (there is always a risk of this with houserabbits) which means that I've had to drastically cut its powerchord back.

We're thinking about getting it serviced, either by Naim or a Naim-approved dealer (Robert Ritchie in Montrose, I think).

Other than a possible improvement in sound quality (which has been mentioned time and again on these forums), what *technically* does a typical service involve? I.e. new caps? new powerchord? new switchgear? ???

Really just a bit curious - wouldn't mind the gain being tweaked too, so that low volumes are do-able without the cut-off effect.

Cant speak directly about servicing one but having bought three second hand in last couple of months, one of which had a brand new main board in 1991 this may help you.

The immediate improvement is the volume pot gain, the old one comes in full blast on cd at about quarter to, the new one at 12, lot more sensible.

I notice the old one took ages to warm up, about 5 days before it stopped being a little brittle, the new one took 1 day.

The new one has a more boppy sound and manages to extract more subtle rhythms playing behind the main tune and, generally sounds very sweet.

Generally worth servicing I would say.

Hope that helps
