Top 10 dub al***s

Dub is one of those things where there’s no middle ground. The albums are either wonderful or dull. Anyway here’s my top 10 in no particular order.
1. Mighty Diamonds – Deeper roots-back to the channel. My introduction to dub. A double album consisting of a vocal album - listened to once, together with the dub – listened to incessantly.
2. Bill Laswell/Style Scott – Bill Laswell meets Style Scott Inna Dub Meltdown. Great bass of course
3. Robotiks – My computer’s acting strange. My favourite Mad Professor album.
4. Dub Syndicate – Vacuum Pumping. Debatable as to whether you can really call it a dub album. A great reggae record none the less
5. Prince Far I and the Arabs – Cry tuff dub encounter chapter 3. Absolute classic. Concrete cracking bass and drums. The voice of thunder at his finest.
6. Black Uhuru – Brutal dub. Their best dub album. A classic.
7. Jah Shaka – Dub salute volume 2 – featuring Icho Candy. Ironically it has great vocals.
8. Various Artists – Raiders of the lost dub. Incredible dub compilation, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear etc. The reissue has a pile of modern dub tracks added – Manasseh, Dub Syndicate, Alpha and Omega - not as good as the original tracks but still interesting
9. Scientist – Dub Landing. The Scientist had to get in there somewhere, and this is my favourite. Came out first time round on purple vinyl.
10. Harry Mudie with King Tubby in Dub Conference Volume 3. According to David Rodigan this is the reason he doesn’t play dub anymore – it’s never been bettered or equalled. Not sure about that myself, but what the hell, it’s a fabulous record.
