Bohemian Crapsody
In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins
Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum gets my vote

Are the starters for 10

You're a man after my own heart - I totally agree.

That infernal "Rabbit" song by Chas & Dave ... utter bilge and the joke ceased to be funny years ago.

"Grandad" by Clive Dunn - pass the bucket, please!

A couple more utter stinkers...

Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
Europe - The Final Countdown

Yeah, but the flip side I play the spoons was something else.

Phil, I agree with you about the Manics.

Spock - do you remember Bill Shatner's version of Luct in the Sky with Diamonds?

My wife would like to add the monotonic Johny Cash to the accumulating pile of offal(ness). Smile

Has anyone noticed that there are twice as many posts on hated melodies as there are on the favorites thread? And far more views as well. It must be the festive spirit!

Which reminds me: Couldn't we bury Slade alive for the torture they committed on innocent people over several decades? Failing that we could send them to the Hague.

While a lot of his stuff leaves me cold, the four American Recordings are brilliant, particularly number three, in my view.

I agree it certainly wasn't in the same class as the superb "Snooker Loopy" or the outstanding "Got My Beer On The Sideboard Dear (Let Muvva Sort 'Im Out if He Comes Round Here)"

Snooker loopy nuts are we
Me and him and them and me
We'll show you what we can do
With a load of balls and a snooker cue
Pot the reds then, skrew back
For the yellow green brown blue pink and black
Snooker loopy nuts are we
We're all snooker loopy

They don't write like that any more

Nice try. Cool

But: Make a meaningful sentence using "rather", "die" & "first". Big Grin

Not my words! Smile

Exactly my view on it, Nigel. I'd like to add the black 5 CD set with the "take-outs", also. I remember a night where I played them all together, and I was SO moved...

I don't dislike the man in black, but I don't think I could sit through 4 or 5 CDs of him - especially if I felt a bit depressed. I'd sooner enjoy an evening of Melanie, Neil Young and Nick Drake topped of with some Joy Division to cheer me.

However, back on topic - does anybody remember a dreadful song called "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro.

And I'm surprised the entire output of those appalling Bee Gees has escaped mention (from Jive Talking onwards - how I hated Saturday Night Fever, and still do). Not to mention the soundtrack of that awful film "Grease".

Oh, so many...

Come On Eileen - Dexy's
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
We Will Rock You - Queen
Born In The USA - Springsteen
Imagine - John Lennon
True - Spandau Ballet
That thing by Bryan "Crater Face" Adams that was No.1 for months and months

But since it's Xmas, my most loathed record has to be "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues. it's so depressing - like being stuck in a lift with a load of "whacky' students. Its conceit - that it is somehow more "gritty" and "authentic" than your run-of-the-mill Xmas song - is lamentably false and the whole thing makes me wanna puke.

Happy Yule!

I reckon Fairytale of New York belongs in the best songs of all time thread.

I'm with Kevin on this - it is probably the worst track Kirsty Maccoll ever did - for the best of Kirsty try Electric Landlady or Kite (wonderful records).

As for the Pogues they should heed four lads who shook the Wirral and stated on their masterpiece 'Trouble Over Bridgewater" that it's clichéd to be cynical at Christmas.

Am I allowed to put the Royal Scam and Katy Lied by Steely Dan on the list: no particular track as they all sound the same to me. I know a lot folks like Steely Dan and I must have done once to buy records by them, but while I still find the first three albums enjoyable, I just can't bring myself to put these on the turntable.

Absolutely not. These are my favourite Dan albums.

The 3 CD box set is very very good. It has all the well known stuff and lots of fascinating odds and ends too, but is one to buy in addition to the regular albums, not instead of.

OK - I withdraw it then and nominate Coldplay instead.

That's better!! Coldplay records are a heap of unmitigated crap. Heaven knows why anyone likes their dirges is beyond me.

elton john - i was made in england.
now that really takes the biscuit!!
Anyone playin this track should be locked in a dark room with the key thrown away with otex perscribed three times aday for a week.

Yeah, I really dread the day that Elton dies. To think of the unholy media hysteria and endless playing of his music that happened with Freddie Mercury makes my bowel loosen. Frown
