Radio interference; is this a servicing issue

Posted by: Rockingdoc on 07 February 2004

I've noticed gradually worsening radio interference from my system over the past year. The system is always powered up, and quite often I am treated to perfectly clear radio programme reception, even though I don't have a tuner connected.
The problem is often on one channel only, and I suspect an ageing 250 on that side, but it could be the SNAXO/HiCap.
System; CDS2/CDPS, NAC52/SCap, SNAXO/HiCap, 250/250.
Can degrading caps. cause this?
If so, please hurry up and find a new supplier Naim.

Active Naim systems do tend to pick up radio. Mine certainly does, but only on hot summer days is it annoying.

However, if you try moving the 3 cabled that come in/out of the SNAXO you will find you can majorly reduce it.

If not, you may have an earthing problem somewhere in that area, as I know one of the sockets on my 180's is a little microphonic.

I don't believe so. Naim active systems are, I believe, very sensitive to RFI just as the amp transformers are sensitive to AC wave distortion and buzz/hum loudly. My active system - similar to yours - also picks up RFI on occasion. It breaks through my system even with the mute on! In my case I suspect a neighbour's mobile/portable phone as the RFI does not appear to be from a radio broadcast. Curiously enough, the most recent bout was yesterday and on one channel also. I also believe it may be related to the connections/or position of the interconnects connecting the SNAXO.
