HDX back up harddisk

If desire could we change the internal back up harddisk to main storage in order to increase the internal capacity from 400G to 800G. As we can now back up any files externally with the 1.5a upgrade anyway.
Just like the UnityServe, only come with 1 x 1T HDD without any back up. I think Naim should open this option to all non SSD version users.

Hi,
You can't actually "back up" your music to a NAS drive with the 1.5a software - what you can do is *MOVE* it off the HDX (or NS0x) onto a NAS but that removes it from the internal drives.
The second drive is always used as a backup of the music on the primary drive.
It is not possible to just "swap" the drives in the HDX (or NS0x) for another drive - the drives in the servers have been carefully selected for both their vibration/noise and for their thermal characteristics.
Cheers
Phil

Phil, I thought you could 'copy' any files off the HDX via ethernet file sharing. Not a backup per say but it works just fine.

The hard drives are automatically backing themselves up. Disk one is being duplicated by disk two, so 2 x 400 GB HD = 400 GB of storage on a NS01 or the HDX. To maneuver files on a network, in OSX, one needs to have sharing enabled on the different devices attached to the network. The retail version of NS01 and HDX only allows one to browse the device as a guest...see pict 1.

Ripping, and the tagging information that is obtained from AMG, is only storable on a "Music Store". A person can attach a Hard Drive to the NS01 or the HDX and designate it as a store, and once done, it can be the first in priority of where music is ripped. Once ripped on a store, the music CAN be copied to any other network attached device, but that does not mean that it can then be accessed by the HDX/NS01. The music must reside in the same root directory as the control.ini file, which is what the server reads as the music database. see pict 2

Once music is ripped to a store, and one can have many 'stores', it can moved around, and when you move it between stores, it retains the tagging information to be readable in the future, by the server. see pict 3, 4, 5.
So...the files may be manipulated via any network attached device that can browse file structures, but they must be manipulated via the Naim interface via stores, in order to retain the ripped tagging info, and folder structure, to seen by the HDX and NSO1.
