redundancy hits home... :(

got my 30 days notice yesterday so the job hunt has to start on monday.

worked in the AV sales industry for the last 2 years and things have got difficult, very difficult, so cuts had to be made, i understand this. but it's hard to swallow none the less.

going to have to put off the unity upgrade for a while and cancel christmas at this rate.

but on a positive note it means one of the lovely people on here has the opportunity to employ me....

will clean, carry, do DIY no job to small ect...lol

I understand your reluctance to take this further Stu. Fine, you've made your decision.

However, there are too many disreputable firms out there who choose to ignore employment law and get away with treating their staff abominably because they know most will not make a fuss. Reputable companies who acknowledge their staff's worth and play by the rules would certainly not be put off employing someone who had decided to protest at being treated unfairly.

Would you really want a reference from such a firm anyway?

I say this as an ex-employer. (tonym as himself this time!)

Stu,
I've followed this thread with interest and could only suggest that a visit to the CAB should be on the cards.
Maybe you have a case against this former employer, maybe you can win unfair dismissal , maybe not.
However, how was your relationship with your other ex co-workers? Because if you allow this dickhead to walk all over employment law and you then you may as well say "sorry guys your turn next."
At the risk of turning this into a rant why do some here suggest that it is better to allow your employer (ex) to wipe his feet on you just because in some imaginary future point you may have to lick his boots for the pleasure of his recommendation.
The company,it appears, has broken the law. If the company gets away with it then they are likely to do it again.
I know there are some here who yearn for the days of throwing little boys up chimneys and employment law being applied by the end of a boot. Who knows, if call me Dave and gentleman George Osborne gain power they may get their wish!
But until then remember, the U.K. has the most draconian employment law in Europe (are we better off for it?). Let's ensure that we make damn sure BAD employers are not allowed to exploit employees.
That is always assuming a no win no fee lawyer can be found. Winker
Good luck Stu. Up the workers!

They are up there but they are not the most draconian in Europe I can assure you.

I support your stance on not letting this employer walk all over employees though.

Cheers
