New Fraime--wow--
Posted by: AL4N on 05 December 2002
Just thiought I'd let you all know that the Fraim is as good as you may of heard (IMHO ). Just had a couple of hours with my local dealer (Adventure's in Hi-fi, Wigan)demo'ing a 5 tier Fraim with a 180 and a pair of 135's. The system was 82-hi cap-snaps-cdx-nac05JMLab 915 speaker's. with the 180 we played amongst other's Van Morrison's Brown eyed girl, it sounded great,the timeing the bass and the clarity,then some UB40, again the base was firm but not overblown and the vocal's clear and crisp,we proceeded to play Gabrielle,Macy Gray,U2 and Queen. All sounded fine with the volume upto about 9:30 ( any louder and I hear bass boom even though no-body else seem's to ).Put on the 135's and it was like a cloud had been lifted, the base on UB40's Don't break my heart was full and tight, it stararted and stoped when it was meant to and just sounded all-together there.Then U2 with When love come's to town, what can I say other than fantastic, the vocal's sounded raw and real and when the drum kicked in you could feel it your chest.Something softer like Out of reach by Gabrielle was equally good with the vocal's crystal clear and the music right there in front of you. I could put the volume up with-ouchangeing the sound of the music, it just got louder with-out straining or getting harsh and never seemed to get out of breath.A quick change back to the 180 just to make sure I wasn't imagineing thing's and the deal was done. Not only does the Fraime let the 135's sing it also looks damn good. Next up-grade will be Mana under the speaker's and then an xps, that's my two cent's worth i've got to go and re-descover some forgotten cd's, let the music play!

Alan
Good review, one has to admit that Fraim sounds great and murders the competition in the quality build and appearance stakes.

Hi Alan,
For best sound...remember to align the shelves and equipment with front edges even with wood shelf's front edge, check fastener tightness after three weeks (loose is normal during acclimation, simply tighten and check again next year), center spikes in cups so they don't touch cup walls, and route all cables so they don't touch any part of the Fraim (if possible, glass also)
Enjoy!

Any tried replacing the shelves with summat else? Larc Audio (zicl on the HFC forum) do some 30mm granite shelves I'm curious about.
Kit,
I can say from personal experiance that the products sold by Richard and Emma, are indeed first rate

and indeed work splendidly, and I have in current use within my system, 4 L.A.R.C. audio plinths (in conjuction with Townshend siemic sinks, because I'm fussy), and they are available in over 30 differents colour, some of which are just superb.
they have a great effect in enhancing the bass requencies without losing cohesion among the upper ones, whilst looking 'Jaw-droppingly' gorgeous

(I must admit, that was one good habbit I did pick up off my brother

)
you may find them here, for those intrested
