Deccavolt Speakers

Posted by: trickytree on 28 June 2003

Ive been looking at the Wilmslow Audio site recently and the 'modern day' version of the Deccavolt in particular.
Iv'e long fancied building my own speakers, (being a chippy it's nice to be surounded by your own handywork), and am interested in there Classique kit for a couple of reasons.
Firstly it uses the same Volt BM220 mid/bass unit as there Home Studio Monitor that I heard some years ago. I was very impressed by there bass performance, but they did sound a little 'up front' (although this was with a mid price Japanese CD player and amplifier).
Secondly I used to have a pair of Infinity Kappa 7's and although not the most gripping speaker to listen to it's Emit tweeter was a wonder with vinyl, pure, clean, extended treble that just went on forever.
So I was wondering if any of you guy's have any info on the old Deccavolts. Has anybody used them with Linn/Naim?

Yours hopefuly, Paul

I have a pair of Decca Studio Monitors which use the London Ribbon in a decent sized horn and this is combined with an 8" Paper bass unit. This i believe is a Mordaunt Short unit.

These speakers are very clean sounding and very dynamic for the size of cabinet.

But with NAIM it might be a bit hard and unforgiving. I used them with valves which was a very satisfactory arrangement.

Do not expect high listening levels, but they do sound very good on acoustic music. Not so hot on very processed music.
