Any one else notice this?

I have noticed over the past few weeks that my CDI is skipping tracks at random and on different CD's. I also noticed that when not playing anything at all that odd numbers would appear in the display!

After being rather worried i think I have tied it down to the fact that I have replaced the lamps in the room this summer with these new long life things (mini flourescents?). In particular a standard lamp about 9 feet away is in almost direct line with the sensor pickup on the front of the CDI. I've not noticed a problem with the lamp off.

Can anyone explain this to me? My guess is that the the discharge in the bulb is of a similar frequency to that put out by the remote. A bit worrying though.

Low sun in the winter (yes well it did occur on two days last winter) reflected off the speakers onto the 52 caused it to randomly switch sources and modes, I over came it by placing shielding in front of the IR receiver window. Problem did not re occur

peter,

Do you have any other things in the room that have remote control. I have found that selecting teletext on my TV remote when the room is brightly lit often either causes the 52 to select mute and mono on the output selectors or to select the tuner. This happens even though the TV is on the other side of the room, hence the remote is being pointed away from the preamp. Putting a small piece of perspex over the sensor removes this effect, but it does look awful. Does anyone know if there any way of turning the sensitivity of the sensor down, perhaps altering the little screws inside, such as for the remote volume speed and brightness?

Could it be mains-born (sp?) interference?

Does the sound quality of the system get noticeably worse when the lights are on?

cheers, Martin

Its almost certainly the fluorescent lighting as I've noticed the same thing happens with other IR receivers under commercial fluorescent light.

Ben

I have the tele on remote but have had no problems before.

Martin

Sound quality is fine with or without lights

I'm pretty sure its to do with my having put these long life bulbs in and having just started to use them as the darker nights draw in and i listen a bit more in the evenings. i will just have to leave this particular lamp off when listening to CD's. Not a real problem - I would just like to know if others have experienced it and why its happening.

Paul - any comments/thoughts from Naim?
