Does anyone here have a Nakamichi CD-45z in their car? Help needed.

It's working fine, but the battery was disconnected and reconnected a little while ago and the dreaded bleep accompanying every button press and volume adjustment has returned.

Does anyone know how to mute the bleep? Post-house move the manual has gone into hiding.
